freedom とlibertyの違い

夕方６時を過ぎてやっと暑さが弱まってきました。

中学３年生教科書、さそう表現。

Statue of Libertyを見に行かない？とさそうところでふと思いました。

Freedomとの違いがあるのかなと。

Freedom :引用Cambridge Dictionary

The condition or right of being able or allowed to do, say, think, etc. whatever you want to, without being controlled or limited.

なんの制約もなく、したい事が何でもできる（思想、言論）状態や権利。最初からある自由。

Everyone should be allowed freedom of choice.

Liberty

The freedom to live as you wish or go where you want.

自分の希望するように生きたり、行きたい所に行く自由。自分の自由の権利を主張して掴み取る。争ったりしながら取るもの。

Hundreds of political prisoners are to be given their liberty.

闘って手に入れた自由、ということで自由の女神はlibertyなんですね。
